A PERVERT who distributed child abuse images on Facebook has been spared jail.

Paul Beattie used the social networking website to send vile child pornography to others. Using the name Vlad the Impaler, he emailed four indecent images to other perverts. When police raided his home they found he had downloaded 72 pictures in total Some of the children in the illegal pictures were as young as eight, a court heard. Now Beattie has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting distributing, making and possessing child pornography.

Judge Brian Forster QC told him: "The images, which I have been able to view, are appalling and involve the sexual exploitation of children. The courts always take very seriously any offences of this nature. I take the view it is in your interests and the public's interest that the inevitable sentence is suspended so there can be active work done with you so in future you live a law-abiding life."

Police went to Beattie's home in Washington in October last year and seized various computer equipment. …
