KEVIN Pietersen remains in contention for selection for the fifth Investec Ashes Test following a scan on his right knee injury, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced. Pietersen flew home early from the winter tour of New Zealand after injuring his knee and missed the two-match return series as he recovered.

He also missed the Champions Trophy but was fit to take on the Australians, helping England to an unassailable 3-0 lead after four matches.

A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board read: "Kevin Pietersen had a precautionary scan on his right knee as part of an ongoing monitoring process following the bone bruising injury that occurred in February.

"Kevin remains available for selection for the fifth Investec Ashes Test and will continue to receive treatment on his right knee as part of his rehabilitation programme over the course of the remainder of the series and beyond."

The hosts are keen to win the series 4-0, but will not want to take undue risks with any of their key men now the urn is secure. …
