THE top sectors for graduate recruitment are accounting and professional services, according to High Fliers Research. This is followed by investment banking and banking and finance with other major recruiters including the public sector, law, oil and energy and consulting.

"Eight of our 10 degree courses are in top sectors for graduate recruitment," says Brian Buckley, of Greenwich School of Management (GSM) in London. "We focus purely on professional degrees. People do not come here to study the history of art, for example -- they come to gain a degree that will lead them to a fulfilling professional career."

GSM London degrees, which are awarded in partnership with Plymouth University, include accounting and finance, law, business, computer science, oil and gas management, travel and tourism, events, information technology, economics and human resources management.

For those who are unfamiliar with GSM London, why consider it as a university choice? "Students who come here are incredibly satisfied with the education and the student experience," adds Buckley. "That is why 32 per cent of our students enrolled on the recommendation of their friends -- these endorsements show just how much they value their time at GSM London.

"What sets us apart is not only the strong focus on professional degrees, but also the support we offer our students. We have around 4,000 students so the college is small enough for staff to know all the students personally and this gives the place an intimate atmosphere. Students are never just a number or one of hundreds sitting in a lecture hall.

"Our location is also very appealing.

Who would not want to study in London? It has so much to offer not just in terms of culture but also in terms of employers. For those already living in London, the campuses -- in Greenford, west London, and Greenwich -- could also mean a more affordable way to gain a degree, particularly if students can remain at home instead of incurring significant debt to cover rent elsewhere."

QUALITY TEACHING What makes GSM stand out? "Our focus is very much on where students will go next," adds Buckley. …
