Fans' Delight as Ex-Westlife Star Visits Shop

FANS screamed and chanted as former Westlife singer Shane Filan visited Newcastle to promote his new solo album. Some particularly fervent devotees started queuing just after 4am for the ex-boy band member's 5.30pm appearance at the HMV store on Northumberland Street. And despite sharing less than 10 words with the star, they all said it had been worth it.

Mum Michelle Watson, from Washington, was among the first in the queue to get her CD signed.

"I'm a massive Westlife fan," the 42-year-old, who waited so long with friends Lorraine Grant, 47, and Rebecca Grant, 21, that even her own daughter left and went home.

"So we started queuing at 4.15am - which I know makes us crazy.

"I told Shane that we'd been waiting so long and he said 'Really?' - he then asked my name and signed my album.

"He was brilliant," added Lorraine, who used to moderate the forums on the Westlife website and was greeted by name by Shane. …
