MANY individuals have untapped artistic talent and a natural creative flair which really can be turned into a future career or fulfilling hobby - it just takes some nurturing from staff at Stockton Riverside College with some good advice on how to develop the talent and particular strengths to make the most of it.

Stockton Riverside College's art and design students, who benefited from this advice and pursued their dream, have gone onto careers in the field of design, working for wellknown labels or for the massive variety of companies requiring design - and just about all of them do. Others have gone onto work in visual merchandising, product design, illustration and have diversi-fied to become an arts administrator or arts therapist following higher education - and of course some have struck out to work for themselves.

Nicola Rowling, curriculum lead for art and design said: 'The students get the chance to explore a whole variety of mediums and materials on our courses including 2 and 3D and media-based skills as well as fine art.

"We're really excited about the new work our students have done in combining traditional art with modern in the 'installations' which were exhibited at our end of year show this year - these are interactive pieces of work which audiences can experience themselves and are used in film and TV often."

And she added: "I really would encourage those who have a desire to follow their dream of developing their creative flair and come and talk to us about how to harness it.

"Our students have said that they have been encouraged at the number of further opportunities there are for work. Enterprise and contact with local employers is something we really ensure that our students get. Last year, our students produced some corporate mural displays for Warburton's and were proud to see it displayed in their offices - and we encourage students to sell their own work of Stockton Borough Council's Specialist Markets and Enterprise markets - that's real work experience! …
