STUDENTS at Consett Academy were celebrating another successful GCSE year.

More than 94% of pupils gained five A*-C grades, with 59% achieving this with English and maths. Also, almost a third of all students gained least three A* or A grades among their five passes with students making better than expected progress this year in English, maths and science.

Most key measures are up on last year, apart from one or two areas, which once again demonstrates the commitment, dedication and partnership between our students, their teachers, support staff and parents.

Academy principal Kevin Reynolds says: "As an academy we set aspirational targets and teach to these targets. Many staff and students have spent hours after school and during holidays organising and attending extra classes, revision parties and coursework booster sessions.

"The success the students have gained is just reward for all these efforts and the backing and encouragement that parents have given to their children. …
