BAKER Street has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

The blossoming street of boutiques in central Middlesbrough has been nominated for a Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) award.

Nominated for Best Budget Campaign, Baker Street has worked hard for the past eight months to promote the distinctive street under a PS10,000 marketing budget.

Middlesbrough Council and brand communications agency, We Do, used a mix of services including branding, marketing, PR, social media and events.

We Do also secured a visit to Baker Street from iconic designer and Red or Dead founder Wayne Hemingway. He praised the eclectic and diverse shops saying: "It's amazing for a town of this size to be this brave. Eclectic businesses are the new mainstream - people want to see cool little independent shops opening up and Baker Street is making that happen."

Michelle McPhee, business development officer at Middlesbrough Council, works alongside independent shops on Baker Street to help them nurture and grow into a profitable business. …
