Man Fatally Shot Inside Southside Club; No Suspect Arrested; Police Probe Why Place Was Open after Hours

A man was shot and killed Sunday morning inside a Southside strip club.

Jacksonville police were called to Mascara's Gentleman's Club at Beach and Southside boulevards about 4 a.m.

Sgt. Dan Janson said no suspect was in custody yet but police were interviewing a lot of witnesses. The man was killed in the common area of the club.

Another question raised was why there were still people at the club so late into Sunday morning.

"They're supposed to close up at 2 o'clock," Janson said. "There appears to be some activity going on past 2 a.m. We definitely will look at that as well."

A man in his 60s was hospitalized for life-threatening injuries early Sunday after the house he was staying in caught fire, Jacksonville police said.

The man was taken to UF Health in Jacksonville, and the house was destroyed, said Lt. Brett Sharp of the Sheriff's Office.
