POSTIE Varinder Kumar has been given the stamp of approval from his bosses after 30 years of dedicated service.

The 72-year-old is at the helm of The Grange Post Office, on Blandford Road, North Shields, and has been handed a prestigious Long Service Award for his unswerving dedication His 30-year anniversary as subpostmaster fell at the end of August and Varinder celebrated the landmark with his family. "It has changed a little bit over the years but it has been a great 30 years," he said.

"I even got three or four certificates over the years for being one of the best subpostmasters.

"I've had an award several times before but this one for 30 years is great.

"Not many people reach this milestone and that is why it is special and I'm very happy about it."

Before taking on a role in the Post Office, Varinder worked at The Grange newsagent, also in North Shields, for 40 years. …
