ONE of the North East's leading hotels is under starting orders as it prepares for the 2013 Bupa Great North Run.

This weekend, to coincide with the annual run from Newcastle to South Shields, the DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport hotel is offering a special set menu specifically designed for GNR participants and spectators.

The menu, which will be served in the hotel's Fratello's restaurant from today to Sunday, includes a choice of starters, such as roasted vegetable and thyme soup, golden fried whitebait and wild mushroom bruschetta, which have been carefully crafted to provide fuel for anyone taking part in the 13-mile event.

It also offers a selection of main courses, ranging from chicken stuffed with black olives, mozzarella and roasted red peppers to crab ravioli with smoked salmon pieces and roasted Mediterranean vegetable and sundried tomato pesto pasta - ideal for those who need to carb-load before the big race.

The menu's desserts, such as cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding, are also designed for those who wish to splurge after months of GNR training, with fresh fruit salad or sorbet available as a lighter treat. …
