'Stranger Danger'warning after Van Stops Girls

A MIDDLESBROUGH primary school has issued a warning to parents over "stranger danger" after two nine-year-old girls were approached by a man in a white van.

Acklam Whin Primary School contacted police after the two girls, both pupils at the school, reported being approached on Sedgefield Road at about 4.30pm on Thursday.

Cleveland Police confirmed they had been contacted about the incident, but no registration number for the van was given and they do not have any further details. Inspector Darren Birkett said: "They were out of school and weren't in school uniform. We have had nothing of a similar type of vehicle reported to us and there has been no other similar reports in the area.

"The Neighbourhood Policing Team have been there today and will keep an eye on it, but there is no more investigation we can do to be honest."

John Lees, headteacher at the school, conducted a special assembly after the incident yesterday, warning pupils about "stranger danger". …
