THE majority of performances so far this season bear no resemblance to the Toon of last year - sound in defence with plenty of attacking intent bodes well for the future.

Tomorrow brings the visit of Steve Bruce's Hull City to St James' Park and there are not too many who would back against Alan Pardew's team stopping the Tigers.

A home win at 10/11 would see a third win in a row and cement that early top-half position, something which has not been seen for a while.

The Toon are the only team in the top half with a negative goal difference, but with each win it creeps nearer to zero. A 2-0 win at 7/1 would achieve that whereas 3-0 at 16/1 or 4-0 at 40/1 will take it into the positive. The manager has a wealth of options up front to secure that first goal, but who would you go for? Maybe Papiss Cisse at 11/2 or Yoan Gouffran at 15/2? …
