IN the closest finish in recent times, Nunthorpe B and Northfield B have tied with 100 points each at the top of the Division Two of the Cleveland & District Summer Table Tennis League.

Nunthorpe B bridged the gap at the top of the table by beating North-field 7-3 despite a hat-trick from Steve Burge as Trevor Teasdale, Gordon Whitfield and David Hildreth all won two each.

The championship hung on the final match of the final set, with Nunthorpe winning the doubles 12-10 in the fifth set to set up a play-off for the title.

Northfield B defeated Travel Hub CIC Nomads C 8-2 with a hat-trick from Burge. Hannah Clark and Chris Gregory added two each for Northfield while Jane Lynas won two for Nomads.

Division One is also close, with Ormesby A and Travel Hub CIC Nomads A vying for top spot with results over the next two weeks set to decide who gets top spot.
