A CALLOUS couple who stole children's personalised Easter eggs in a vicious robbery at a Teesside home have been jailed for 11 years.

Karl McDevitt and Amanda Venis were on a violent hunt for heroin when they attacked and threatened their victims.

The two had drunk three bottles of cheap wine and three litres of cider between them.

McDevitt, 30, was carrying a craft knife and had a bike chain wrapped around his hand, Teesside Crown Court heard.

He grabbed a man in the home, pushed him against a wall, put the blade to his throat and threatened to kill him if he didn't get his money out.

Venis, 31, also known as Amanda McDevitt, shouted "Where the **** is the money?" as she lifted mattresses searching for cash.

She attacked the man's partner, who had got out of the bath and heard the commotion, said prosecutor Jane Waugh.

She punched her to the face and, after her towel fell off, beat her naked on the floor in a long assault.

Venis kicked and stamped on the woman's face and body, stood on her, hit her with a bottle, banged her head off a rabbit hutch, threw a bike at her and bit her forearm.

She threatened to kill her, shouting: "Give me your money.

I'm going to bite your ******* nose off.

"I swear on my daughter's life - if you tell anybody I'll do worse."

Venis's "parting shot" was to steal Easter eggs belonging to the woman's children, personalised with their names.

McDevitt rifled through the male victim's pockets, took money and made him take off his socks to search them before he left on the night of March 26.

The Easter eggs were found by police at the home where the robbers were staying the next day. The prosecution accepted Venis's claim that she didn't know her boyfriend was armed at the time. …
