Shooting victim Gavin Bradley of Cambois GUNNED down in cold blood by a love rival, Gavin Bradley today told how he is lucky to be alive.

Armed and dangerous, Richard Hughes blasted Mr Bradley in a row over a woman, peppering his legs with shotgun pellets.

Hughes shot his rival out of his car window as he walked down a country lane with the woman they were fighting over, Codie Little.

As Hughes was locked up for 10 years, Mr Bradley, still on crutches and in constant pain six months on, told how his life is in ruins.

The 23-year-old, who was at Newcastle Crown Court to see Hughes jailed, still has most of the 120 pellets which struck him embedded in the tops of his legs.

Mr Bradley said he had gone from looking after his mother, who has health problems, to her having to care for him.

The former joiner and mechanic has been forced to give up work due to his injuries.

He said: "Since I was shot I've gone from being an independent and healthy person to being withdrawn and paranoid.

"Before this I was the carer for my mam, now I'm dependent on her to help me.

"I'm 23 years old and I'm having to get my mam to help to wash me and help me get into the bath." Hughes, branded dangerous by a judge, shot Mr Bradley with a home-made gun out of his car window after they fell out over 19-year-old Codie Little.

Mr Bradley said he had recently split with Miss Little at the time but said they'd been talking and he was hopeful they may have got back together.

He said: "We had been together two-and-a-half years and had split up recently. …
