NO FEWER than four shared ownership developments are due to be launched in Wandsworth during the next eight weeks, bringing more than 100 lower-priced homes on to the market.

First off the blocks is Illumina, in Broomhill Road, 26 one and two-bedroom flats from housing association Octavia Living (octaviahousing.org.uk). One-bedroom 205sq ft flats will start at [pounds sterling]70,000 for a 25 per cent share with a full market value of [pounds sterling]280,000.

[pounds sterling]1,000 A MONTH OR LESS Buyers will need to raise a 10 per cent deposit ([pounds sterling]7,000) and it is estimated that, once rent and service charges are taken into account, the total cost of the property will be [pounds sterling]960 a month.

Applicants must have a maximum household income of no more than [pounds sterling]38,000 a year and preference will be given to those who live or work in the borough.

The flats have contemporary decor with integrated kitchens, plus a useful utility cupboard to hide washing machines and dryers.

Floors are wood laminate, with wool carpet in the bathrooms, and there is a video entry phone system and balconies fitted with LED lighting.

The development is just off West Hill, which is hardly a retail mecca, though a reviving breakfast at Ken's Cafe is something of a local institution.

However, the shops and restaurants of Putney High Street (plus a cinema and lovely pubs by the Thames) are a mile away. Wandsworth Town is burgeoning with some great cafes and there are independent shops to explore on Old York Road, an easy walk away.

The nearest Tube is East Putney, on the District Line, half a mile away. Wandsworth Town station is less than a mile away, with trains taking 14 minutes to Waterloo. Both are in Zone 2 An annual season ticket costs [pounds sterling]1,216. Or, for a slower but infinitely more enjoyable commuting experience, you can take a river bus to Embankment.

King George's Park is next door and has tennis courts and a lake. …
