NIMBIN will be coloured with music from across the globe this weekend as world music lovers converge for the second Nimbin Roots Festival, starting Friday.

A big step up from last year's inaugural festival, the Nimbin Showgrounds event will feature full camping facilities, two performance spaces, along with market and food stalls and the ubiquitous chai tent.

Whereas creator Xavier Avogniko described last year as simply a "big local gig", this year it is shaping up as a true international affair, with acts from Africa, France and Fiji, and up and down the east coast.

Headlining the event is Africa Entsha, from Soweto in South Africa, who have delivered their soulful acapella covers of gospel and pop songs around the world.

Then there's Knox, a folk/soul/ reggae acoustic artist from Fiji who is making waves in Sydney's world folk underground.

The Rhythm Hunters will also impress with their orchestral multinational blend of Japanese drums, Indonesian melodies and deep grooves. …
