Jags' Old Nemesis Has His Own Problems; Fisher Trying to Get Rams' Run Game Going, but Remains Confident in QB Bradford

When St. Louis cornerback Trumaine Johnson missed practice because he was ill last week, coach Jeff Fisher said he expected him to play Sunday against the Jaguars.

"As I mentioned to him, Walter Payton set a single season rushing record with a temperature of 104 against the Vikings,'' he said.

Fisher then paused to set up the punch line.

"The question is, does he know who Walter Payton is?'' Fisher said.

That's an indication that Fisher hasn't changed much since leaving the Tennessee Titans after the 2010 season and sitting out a year before taking over the Rams last year.

He's still noted for his quick wit. And for being a Jaguars nemesis when he was in the same division with the Titans. Now he's an NFC coach and will face the Jaguars only once every four years.

In 1999, the Titans beat the Jaguars three times, including a victory in the AFC title game that knocked the Jaguars out of the Super Bowl. Fisher then needled the Jaguars at the Super Bowl by suggesting that Alltel Stadium was one of the Titans' home fields.

St. Louis had finished 2-14 when Fisher took over in 2011. The Rams improved to 7-8-1 record last year, but have taken a step backward this season.

They're 1-3 and lost their two games 31-7 at Dallas and 35-11 to San Francisco.

They rank last in the league in rushing (only 47 yards per game), which is surprising for a Fisher team. In Tennessee, the Titans were noted as a running team under Fisher.

This year, his leading rusher is Daryl Richardson, a Texas native who played high school ball at Sandalwood after his parents moved to Jacksonville when he was in 10th grade.

There is speculation Richardson will be benched on Sunday because he has only 114 yards in 42 carries and is battling turf toe.

The speculation was started by Richardson, who was asked by a fan on Twitter if he would start Sunday and responded, "not this week, man.''

That got him a talking-to by Fisher, who doesn't want his players announcing personnel moves. …
