A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was allegedly attacked while out walking his dog.

A 65-year-old man suffered severe head injuries in an incident near his home on Chestnut Avenue in Redcar, and was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he was said to be in a stable condition today.

Police forensic teams sealed off a small grassed area with a white tent in a leafy residential part of Redcar, along with parts of three surrounding streets - Oak Road, Walnut Grove and Chestnut Avenue - while they investigated the incident yesterday.

The area was cordoned off by police, and scenes of crime officers could be seen at the junction, which is close to the town's Redcar East railway station.

Neighbour Lucille Kirwan, who has lived close to the grassed area where the alleged assault was said to have taken place, with her partner and three children aged 18, five and three, for around three years said: "It's absolutely terrible. …
