FOR Brett Jacobsen, being a pastor is about getting out of the church and spreading the word of God.

But in the past six months he's found the best way to do that is with leather knuckles.

After spending 15 years as a pastor in his own church at Miami, "Bretto the Blessed Brawler" has found a second faith in mixed martial arts.

"My initial reaction when I first watched UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) was that this is pretty brutal, although I kept watching.

"And you find after they throw down, about 90% of them come together and hug it out," Mr Jacobsen said.

Growing up Brett found he had an affinity for competitive sports, although his teenage hedonism cost him a chance to professionally pursue the sports he loved.

"I had a heavy teenage life; I was smoking pot a lot and becoming a junkie. I needed to be set free from the rubbish," Mr Jacobsen said.

It was at the age of 21 that Brett found Christianity and he has since devoted his life to spreading the word of God. …
