THE accordion is one of the world's better-known musical instruments and the Bundaberg-based band 'Happy Notes' has a collective 453 years of experience playing this instrument, making them proud to be home to the largest accordion band in Queensland.

Founded by Noel Beets and Alice Valuch in 2001, the band has provided hours of entertainment throughout the region.

The band has gone from strength to strength and many attribute the success to Jennifer James. Mrs James moved to Bundaberg in 2004 and is currently the tutor and conductor of the band. Mrs James once titled Australian Champion, is humble about her role.

"I get a lot of enjoyment and fun out of this group. It is inspiring and very satisfying to see how they have grown as a band and also as strong network of friends," said Mrs James.

Band member Dell Craig cannot speak highly enough of the contribution Mrs James has made.
