Sugar Refinery to Get Back to 7 Days

BUNDABERG Sugar has reversed its decision to cut back the refinery's hours of operation from seven to five days.

The move to cut back came on Monday, after soft drink giant Coca-Cola Amatil announced it was significantly reducing its NSW site contract with the sugar supplier.

The refinery said it was being forced to reduce its continuous shift operations due to the part loss of contract.

But Bundaberg Sugar yesterday told the NewsMail the Coca-Cola Amatil Brisbane site had given the refinery the next three-month forecast which showed "strong demand" in the lead-up to Christmas.

Refinery Operations and Sales general manager Guy Basile told the NewsMail that as of October 14 the roster would revert back to a seven-day operation.

"That's because the warmer weather has kicked in and our sales team gained some extra customers," he said.

"All these things came together to get us back to seven days. …
