Funding Plan Is a Little Up in the Air

FOR years women in Moranbah, Dysart and Clermont have had the chance to visit Dr Jan Hanson.

The GP has a special interest in women's health and she gives women in these rural communities the opportunity to visit a female doctor, which is not an option always available to them.

However, funding for this service will be changing in the future.

From July 2015 this service will be funded by the Rural Health Outreach Fund, which is delivered by Check Up.

This has created some uncertainty of how the Royal Flying Doctor Service program will be run and delivered.

RFDS north west regional manager Stephanie De La Rue said the RFDS would work with Check Up to maintain the service.

While Dr Hanson is fully booked in advance, changes in funding could restrict the program.

Dr Hanson, who is based in Mackay, has a passion for rural health.
