IN HIS past three starts jockey Glen Boss has kept Puissance De Lune back in the field.

But trainer Darren Weir hopes the man who rode Makybe Diva to three Melbourne Cup wins will have this year's Cup favourite near the head of the pack in tomorrow's Group One Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

Puissance De Lune heads the betting at $5.50 with TattsBet for this year's Cup and Weir is looking to see the five-year-old grey get back to the on-pace style which helped to win the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) in dominant fashion last spring.

"He certainly won't be going back; he will be taking a position in the race from the gate," Weir told RSN.

"He is ready to take a position as well - he is fit and well.

"I will be hoping he will be in the first three or four."

Trainer Weir said he has had to manage Puissance De Lune carefully this campaign so he can be competitive in Group 1 races and not overtax him before next month's Melbourne Cup. …
