Manly's Aggression May Rattle Roosters

NRL: Sea Eagles great Cliff Lyons believes the current Manly team has discovered the right balance of aggression and restraint.

The Sea Eagles will start underdogs against the Sydney Roosters in Sunday's NRL grand final but Lyons is confident that Manly's tempered aggression will provide the key for victory.

Lyons, who won two premierships and played 309 games with the Sea Eagles, said today's outfit reminds him of the gritty sides he won titles with in 1987 and 1996.

"We're a take-no-prisoners club but the Roosters are like that too," he said.

"The beaches rivalry has always given games between these two teams that little bit extra."

Lyons, who played alongside Manly coach Geoff Toovey at the Sea Eagles for 12 seasons said Toovey is a master at harnessing his aggression.

"In his playing days Geoff was a brilliant leader and he's showing that as a coach now," Lyons said. "He told the boys at half-time against South Sydney (while trailing 14-6) not to panic. …
