Irishman Takes Command of NAS

Irish eyes are now smiling on the "Dragonslayers" of HS-11, a helicopter squadron based at Jacksonville Naval Air Station.

Cmdr. Timothy F. Kinsella Jr., originally from Dublin, took over the reins of the group in a change of command ceremony Friday.

Kinsella is taking over for Cmdr. Ryan T. Keys, a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, who is leaving for a post at Fort Belvoir near Washington, D.C.

After multiple deployments, Keys said he's looking forward to spending more time with his family, but will miss his days in the choppers.

"I'm going to miss this a lot," Keys said. "This is pretty much the last operational flying role at my rank, but I've deployed a lot and it's time to spend some time with my family."

The Dragonslayers will also be leaving Jacksonville for good as well.

The unit is the last remaining helicopter unit of its kind at the base.

Sometime in 2016 they will deploy and then relocate to Norfolk, Va. …
