SUNDERLAND is a superb location for businesses large and small. The city offers a wide range of sites and purpose-built premises close to the region's transport network that have attracted worldwide, UK and local occupiers.

The city council has strengthened the choice of locations by developing business centres to suit a range of sectors and sizes of businesses.

These include well-established developments such as Evolve business centre at Rainton Bridge, Sunderland Software Centre in the city centre and the Washington Business Centre which will be completed in February 2014.

Sunderland City Council leader Councillor Paul Watson said: "If we want to see businesses grow, then it's very important that there's space and premises for them to grow into.

The Washington Business Centre is for the next generation of our businesses.

"We and others are always looking to the next generation of city businesses, and this business centre is a good reminder of how Sunderland is open to businesses and open for business."

SUNDERLAND SOFTWARE CENTRE THE striking Sunderland Software Centre in the city centre offers high specification offices and an attractive public area for businesses to meet, alongside a boardroom, range of meeting rooms and communal areas.

Its tenants include software technology companies such as Orcuma. Co-founder Paul Mitchell said: "We searched the North East for a suitable location in which our business can grow and it soon became apparent how plugged in to software Sunderland is.

"The whole ethos and impression of the Software Centre was exactly what we were looking for and it offered the most flexibility in terms of being able to upscale into additional offices when business growth requires."

EVOLVE BUSINESS CENTRE THE Evolve business centre, in Sunderland, was designed for technology- based companies and has successfully attracted a range of software-related organisations. These include Pitbull Studio, which has just moved to a larger studio at Evolve after more than doubling its workforce from 18 to 40 in the past year.

Pitbull managing director Robert Troughton said: "The location is perfect for us and the city's investment in projects like superfast broadband is imperative for our industry to thrive.

"The City Council has been extremely supportive with help to set up and market the studio. Sunderland is a technological hub for the gaming industry, which made our desire to expand within the city an easy decision.

"We wouldn't want to move from the Sunderland area. …
