SWIMMING with the fishes was this surprise proposal from one love-struck scientist hoping to make a splash.

Oceanographer Kevin Black took the plunge calling in the help of divers at the Blue Reef Aquarium to officially propose to his long-term partner Nicola King.

Heading out of the Tynemouth aquarium, the couple and their one-year-old twins had spotted the otters and seen the seals at the coastal attraction.

But as they walked through the underwater tunnel there was something fishy alongside the usual stingray and reef shark.

Greeting Nicola was the sight of two divers with placards asking "Nicola will you marry me? Please?" Anna Pellegrino from Blue Reef said: "Kevin had been in to see us earlier in the week and we had put together a detailed plan of action for the big day.

"As soon as they arrived at reception we let all the staff know they were on site and told our divers to get ready. …
