IN SEPTEMBER we all went to Sunderland to the Winter Gardens for an exciting trip for Science Week. We got to school at 8:15am and then walked to the train station in Bankfoot. All the children got on the train in pairs and waiting for 40 minutes to get there. When we arrived at Sunderland we all put down our packed lunches and coats and went to learn. During the first activity, the lady told us about light and how miners used rotten fish as a way to light up the mine - but it smelt really bad. Next, we explored the winter gardens then we did an activity about "Kill or Cure" where we investigated which plants can kill and which can heal. After that we performed an experiment to find out if nettles and dock leaves were acid or alkaline. In order to do this we squashed a nettle and a dock leaf we looked at their juices and put some litmus paper on them to see which colour it turned. …
