FIGHT of the Night honours was the icing on the cake for Lismore boxer Shayne Smith when he stepped back into the ring.

Smith had his first fight in more than two years at the Maloney's Glove Club annual fight night at the Lismore Workers Club.

It was only his second fight after years of involvement in the sport.

"It was like having my first fight all over again, given the fact that I was out of the ring for so long," Smith said.

"I was already in the shower and a few mates ran in to tell me I'd got fight of the night.

"The home crowd was great and I think that's what got me over the line in the end.

"To get that sort of win at home in front of everyone is really exciting."

Smith fights out of the PCYC gym in Lismore.

He grew up playing soccer for Richmond Rovers before switching his focus to boxing. …
