PARTY POOPER; Lismore Star Hiscox Delays Engagement for World Cup

POSTPONING his engagement party was an easy decision for Lismore rugby league player Gavin Hiscox.

Hiscox, 25, has been selected to play in the Rugby League World Cup for Italy next month.

The opening ceremony in Wales is on the same date as his engagement party, on October 26.

"I didn't think I would get the chance to play in this and I'm absolutely stoked," Hiscox said.

"I've changed the engagement party because this opportunity might not come around again.

"Four years is a long time and you never know what sort of side they'll have in the coming years."

Hiscox is eligible to play for Italy with heritage on his mother's side of the family.

He played junior football with South Lismore before the club folded and at Marist Brothers.

The lock attended St John's College Woodlawn and captained the Yeppoon Seagulls first grade side at the age of 19.

He will be in good company in the Italian team with NRL players Craig Gower, Anthony Minichiello and Terry Campese selected. …
