ALLISON Nieuwenhoven will embark on the journey of a lifetime tomorrow.

The 19-year-old Nambour girl will trek the Kokoda Track with her father and family friend.

The nine-day voyage through the rough and energy-sapping terrain of this iconic track in Papua New Guinea will be undertaken through tour company Kokoda Spirit.

Ms Nieuwenhoven said her family had always had a strong military connection and she had been an Air Force cadet for seven years.

"I am of the mindset of, if (Federal Treasurer) Joe Hockey can do it - I can too," she said with a laugh.

But Allison does admit she "probably could be more prepared", despite training hard to get in shape.

"I have been doing a lot of mountain climbing and I have definitely become more fit," she said.

"I have been putting four or five litres of water and food in my backpack to weigh it down and bulk it up."

Allison said she felt blessed to be able to share the experience with her nearest and dearest, and believed they would help her through. …
