NEXT week, Mackay vessel operator Leanne Ashenden will be sitting on the deck of the Pacific Dawn cruise ship at Airlie Beach.

Ms Ashenden will be on board the 245 metre cruise liner for the whole time it will be docked in the Whitsundays.

It sounds like she has a dream gig -- and yesterday it became official that she has the best job in town.

The hard working Inchcape Shipping Services vessel operator won the Daily Mercury's best job in town competition, and will now be the proud owner of a $1000 traveller's cheque.

"I was surprised I won ... I think everyone thinks they have the best job -- but I do love my job," she said.

However, her role entails much more than just sitting pretty on cruise ships.

"I have been soaked head to toe in pouring rain, been covered in coal dust and been called out to work at midnight," she said.

"It's always a challenge, but I love the variety."

The Mackay mum helps coordinate ships coming into ports throughout the region. …
