THE Cathedral College captain Dan Russell has never beaten St Brendan's College, but the Year 12 student is determined to change all that today.

Russell leads TCC into today's First XIII grand final against red-hot favourites St Brendan's College at Browne Park.

He's called on his teammates to lift and break the school's eight-year premiership drought and send the Brisbane Broncos-bound centre out a winner. TCC led 10-6 in last year's First XIII grand final before St Brendan's powered home to a 22-10 win.

"The first half we play one good half of footy and then, because they're a good side, they come back at us," Russell said.

"I'll just remind the boys to really just concentrate on lifting in that first half and just play the same way in the second half. And, it's our last game, so I'll be reminding them to have a real good dig and play for each other and then see what happens at the end."

Rugby league nursery St Brendan's has dominated the Rockhampton Secondary School Rugby League competition in recent years, winning every First XIII grand final since 2006. …
