HOCKEY: Harlequins goalie John Farrell admitted he felt nervous as his side defended five penalty corners in the final 10 minutes to beat Corinthians 1-0 and win their first men's premiership in 13 years.

Two hours earlier, Harlequins beat Wyverns 2-1 to win their first ladies premiership in 16 years for the first double by the club in history.

The courage of the Harlequins team had to be seen to be believed as they played with nine men for three minutes with 10 minutes to go and then one short for 13 of the final 14 minutes after the umpire on the grandstand side gave two players a rest for infringements.

Under the organisation of Greg McDonald, Harlequins didn't panic and defended each of the penalty corners.

"I just take it as it is," John Farrell said.

"This is my best effort in goal all season."

Going into the game Corinthians, under the captaincy of retired Australian Hockey League player Troy March, was odds-on favourite after winning seven of the past 10 premierships. …
