THE SUNSHINE Coast Business Women's Network has joined forces with organisers of the Reality Bites non-fiction literary festival to bring one of the most influential Australian women to speak at the event later this month.

Dr Anne Summers is described as "an Australian girl" who became the editor of New York's Ms Magazine, before going on to become women's affairs adviser to two successive Australian governments.

Ms Summers is credited with shaping many policies that have enabled women to participate more effectively socially and economically in today's world.

In an effort to introduce the next generation of young female leaders to Ms Summers and her work, festival organisers are running an essay competition for senior high school girls on the Coast.

Each school will be asked to submit the best essays on the topic: Equality. Inclusion. Respect. Future.

A shortlist of five will be decided by the judging panel of author Annette Hughes, Hoopla editor Wendy Harmer and festival director Mel Myers. …
