ALAN PARDEW is understood to be keen to get a new deal agreed with Paul Dummett.

The Geordie boy's contract expires at the end of the campaign, although it is believed there have been only preliminary discussions on extending his current contract.

United are eager to showcase local Tyneside talent coming through their ranks and Dummett's progress is the ideal example for their blueprint.

Dummett's performances have not gone unnoticed around the football circuit and Birmingham City, Millwall and Premier League Hull City all have the Welsh under-21 international on their rader.

However, the Chronicle understands both United and Dummett are keen to put any talk about his future to bed by agreeing a new deal - with the new contract expected to be announced soon.

Dummett's performance and first Premier League goal drew praise from ex- Toon skipper and England star Alan Shearer over the weekend, who was impressed by the Kenton lad's left-footed finish against Liverpool. Yet his first goal was missed by Paul's father Ian, who usually travels to every game, as he was flying back to Newcastle after an excursion and was left stunned by a flurry of text messages when he landed back on Tyneside. Dummett junior said: "My dad missed the goal because he was on a plane. "My phone was going mad after the game. "He didn't see the game because he was in Portugal and landed in Newcastle at 2.30pm.
