NEW BANK OPEN FOR BUSINESS NEXT MONTH - Grafton's new bank, the Bank of New South Wales on the corner of Prince and Victoria streets, is rapidly nearing completion. The manager, Mr HF Moore, said yesterday it was anticipated the bank would open for business on October 8 or October 14.

DEATH OF FORMER ALDERMAN - The death occurred in Canberra of Samuel Brisbane Mackie, who was well known in Grafton. About 20 years ago Mr Mackie came to Grafton from Queensland to manage the Federal Match Co factory when it opened here.

NO COMMENT ON COWPER - The Member for Casino, Mr Ian Robinson MLA said from Sydney he did not know where a rumour started that he might resign his State seat to contest the Federal seat of Cowper.

MEN BURIED IN TRENCH COLLAPSE - Three workmen employed by the Department of Public Works on the Lower Clarence water extension works, were caught when a trench in which they were working collapsed yesterday afternoon. …
