Norths Dance to Victory; Undefeated Girls Display Champion Team Qualities

THEY danced on the field, sang a catchy victory song and displayed tremendous club spirit.

It's little wonder the Norths' D-grade girls were named Ipswich Hockey's junior team of the year.

Apart from their fantastic bonding, the young players were pretty handy on the field.

Norths were undefeated for the 2013 season, scoring 139 goals and only conceding 12.

Having Queensland under-13 co-captain Lauren Hess leading the side gave Norths added quality.

However, emotional coach Jay Petersen was proud how his team, featuring some newcomers, gelled throughout the season.

"They just played well together,'' he said, praising goalkeeper Taleesha Crone for her efforts in her second season guarding the net.

"They worked hard this year.''

Petersen wore a red and white wig as he sat outside the dugout urging his team to its 4-0 grand final victory over Wests.

"It gets the girls going, gets them into the spirit,'' he said of his distinctive hairpiece. …
