Ex-Firebird Says She's Happy to Go Trompf Calls It Quits; Coast-Based Ex-Firebirds Star Loses Drive to Pay at Top Level

NETBALL: It is with no regrets that Keirra Trompf has ended her top-flight career.

The former Queensland Firebirds star, sidelined since June last year after undergoing another knee reconstruction, has reclaimed full fitness but says she no longer has the drive to play at the top level.

About to turn 28, the Noosa-based member of the Firebirds' 2011 undefeated championships side is eyeing a playing or coaching role at Caloundra-based State League team the Suncoast Lynx.

She favours coaching.

A wing defender and Firebird since 2005, she confirmed her retirement from elite netball after her name was absent from the Firebirds' contracted-player list for the upcoming ANZ Championship season.

She was not contracted last season either, but had given herself every chance to play again.

"I had the full support of the coach after I hurt myself in June (2012) to take my recovery as it came," she said.

"I was working towards my goal of just returning to full fitness to make a decision for myself rather than because of injury. …
