I'VE recently looked at on-line dating sites.

No, no, no...not for myself, I've had the same bloke for 45 years. It's to support my single women friends (my age) who asked me to check out a few profiles before they sent off a tick or a kiss or whatever it is you do to connect. According to my friends, all blokes fudge their on-line profiles a little, stretch the truth if you like. All the men over 50 on on-line sites are at least six foot tall and 'youthful' and 'athletic' and 'really energetic'.

Although I would never go on to a dating site myself -- I would turn to my daughters and grandchildren for company if I suddenly found myself single -- I do applaud those mature singles that use them. It's a convenient and easy way for people of a certain age to meet each other.

But here's my advice to you single blokes over 50, if you want to attract a lovely woman (she won't be on the beach taking a romantic walk, but she almost certainly will be a slim, attractive, 'good for her age', a non-smoker, a once-a-week drinker and a gourmet cook who can't wait to make you candlelight dinners. …
