Young Stars Produce Results; Barracudas Prove They Can Beat Experienced Rivals

CRICKET: Some of Mackay's top young cricketers have shown that the future of cricket in Mackay is promising, taking out top honours in the regular season of the MCA Winter Competition.

Norths Barracudas, a team of under-21 players who put their skills to the test in the winter competition, are hoping to finish the job off and take out this weekend's semi-final.

"It's been unreal. The reason we put this team together in the first place was we saw a lot of potential at the Norths club, in the younger guys coming through the grades," team captain Zac Wilson said.

"We surprised ourselves a bit, to be honest."

Wilson said the players in his team had been mates and played together for several years, and saw the winter competition as a good way to keep their cricket skills in check ahead of the summer cricket season.

"We've all been best mates coming through seniors, we've all played in the same grades over the years," he said. …
