Graduation Has Become a Habit

KIM Southey can't help but feel dA[c]jA vu as she prepares for her fourth graduation at the University of Southern Queensland.

The management lecturer received her first diploma at USQ (then called the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education) in 1989, and now, 24 years later, will receive her Doctorate of Philosophy this weekend.

Dr Southey has also graduated with a Bachelor of Business and a Master of Business Research, also from USQ, and said the university had played a significant part in her life.

"Toowoomba has been good to me. I have family here and it has given me great employment and education opportunities," Dr Southey said.

"I still remember life as a uni student back in the 1980s. It was a great time.

"The refectory buzzed with students nearly every moment, and there was a real sense that we were on the brink of exciting futures.

"The lecturers were always worth listening to a[pounds sterling] some of whom are now my current colleagues! …
