Switch to the Eagles Proves a Good Decision for Family Man Alby

AT 32 years old, Albert Talipeau remains undecided about his future.

But as he prepares to run out for Goodna in tomorrow's IRL A-grade grand final, Talipeau could easily have been doing so in a Brothers jersey.

When he decided to leave Swifts, who he led to the 2010 title, Talipeau all but signed with the Brethren.

"They approached me and I went to training with them in the pre-season," he said.

"I did agree to join them with a handshake. But then (Goodna chairman) Gary Parker rang me.

"I was happy to have a quiet chat with him and he said Goodna had not won the title since 2005.

"I thought Brothers have been very successful and I like a challenge so I took it."

He won't regret his decision, whatever the result tomorrow.

With a second child on the way for Talipeau and partner Caitlin, retirement is shaping as a realistic proposition once this season is out of the way.

A sound family life was part of the reason they moved from Sunnybank to Springfield Lakes, where they live now. …
