THEY said they would ring him at 10am, so when he still had not heard later that day, Connor Christensen was a bundle of nerves.

The 16-year-old prop was anxiously waiting to hear if he had been selected to represent Queensland at the National Under-16 Championships after trialling with the squad in Brisbane recently.

"We were just sitting around on Wednesday night when we got the phone call and I had made it. I was shocked and overwhelmed," Christensen said.

The Rockhampton Grammar School student and Brothers Club player was joined by Rockhampton's Lachlan Howell, Caleb Tull and Rye Steel at the first trial, before all four were invited to attend the second trial earlier this month.

Christensen said the Central Queensland contingent performed well during what was some hard trial games, featuring around 100 triallists, mainly from Brisbane. "It was a really tough series of trial matches . …
