MOMENTUM has been building at St Luke's in the rowing program for the past few years and this year its athletes ripped the Head Of The River trophy from Shalom's grasp after 20 years.

With an unrivalled dominance not seen before in Bundaberg school sport, Shalom proved confidence mixed with ability was a tough combination to break.

But after five years of planning, and being led by two of the city's best-young rowers, St Luke's brought home the overall points trophy and the percentage points trophy.

Emma Pressler-McHugh was one of the captains and she said the change from runner-up to winner was something the team enjoyed.

"We had always been second best and to actually take it out was our goal, we did, and the whole school was excited," Pressler-McHugh said.

Jordan Draganoff added the victory was made sweeter with the strength of rowing in Bundaberg growing over the five years he had been in the sport.

"It was good to win one; Head Of The River had been getting more popular as well," Draganoff said. …
