Jillaroos Pair Is Keen

RUGBY LEAGUE: Mackay's Deanna Turner and former Mackay woman Renae Kunst will soar in to the finals of the Festival of the World Cups with the Australian Jillaroos on Sunday.

The Jillaroos were unbeaten after two games this week and qualified for the Women's World Cup final against defending champions New Zealand, regardless of the outcome of today's game when the two teams will face each other in a pool match.

Turner will take a rest from the tournament and will watch today's game from the sidelines while Kunst, who used to live in Mackay, will take to the field against the Kiwis.

The Jillaroos booked their passage to the final after taking out France in a 72-0 victory earlier this week. The Australians raced in 14 tries, five which came from fullback Samantha Hammond, who is playing her second test.

They also beat England 14-6 in their first match at the World Cup.

Jillaroos coach Paul Dyer said he was satisfied with the performance ahead of the New Zealand showdown, even if he said the team was a bit flat in the first half

The Jillaroos will have a score to settle with the Kiwis, after the Aussies lost 34-nil in the last World Cup grand final in 2008, which was played at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. …
