CENTRAL Queensland has more to it than just a booming industrial presence.

Natural beauties are in abundance, with the Great Barrier Reef home to some of the most breathtaking underwater sights in the world.

However, it is the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef region that is not always given the credit it deserves, with the Gladstone area sporting many spectacular sights as well.

Former Miss Universe Australia Kimberley Busteed recently visited the region as part of the Queensland Weekender team, and said she was proud to promote the region she grew up in, and hoped locals were as proud of the area as she was.

"I love central Queensland, there really is a lot to do," Ms Busteed said.

"There's no excuse for people not to get out and enjoy the region."

The crew went on a six-day tour of central Queensland, which started with an aerial tour of the Reef with Gladstone Helicopters.

From there they headed over to Quoin Island Retreat, visiting the turtle rehab centre where they also released a turtle back into the wild. …
