FASSIFERN'S hopes of turning last year's premiership triumph into a dynasty appear over, for this year at least.

The Bombers were beaten 38-8 by Brothers at Brother Seery Oval yesterday, leaving them five points out of the top four with four rounds remaining.

To make the four-team finals, Fassifern have to win their last four games and hope Norths win no more than one. It seems unlikely on yesterday's effort.

Fassifern were well in the game at half-time, trailing 16-8, but succumbed to Brothers' relentless pressure in the second half.

Early in the first half, the signs were there that Brothers were on song and the Bombers weren't.

In the opening five minutes, Fassifern gave away a penalty and turned over possession.

Brothers got the ball, worked it into Fassifern's red zone and turned it into six points when Brooke Alofipo scored. It was not until the 12th minute that Brothers made their first error.

Where Brothers completed sets and turned it into field position and pressure, Fassifern gave themselves too few cracks at the Brothers line due to ill-discipline and poor ball control.

There were glimpses of what the Bombers are capable of, such as when winger David Tahavalu charged on to a Kali Nauqe chip kick to score, following a Mahe Paseka charge up the middle.

Brothers ensured the halftime lead, however in a clever, typical move laid on by halfback Jason Connors, who called fullback Shane Gibson to the blindside to create an overlap from which winger Ben Seve scored.

In the second half, Brothers continued to cash in on good field position while Fassifern butchered most of the chances it got.

The game ended with a failed conversion attempt by Gibson, who has played his last game for the club this season.

Work commitments mean he won't be part of the club's seemingly unstoppable charge to the title. …
