New Strip to Cap Big Day for Eagles

THE Ipswich Eagles game against Carrara today will take on special significance for the club, using it to host their first multicultural and community day and debut what will become their permanent strip next year.

The new strip has been specially designed to reflect the indigenous heritage of the region.

Eagles president Michael Podolak said he was hoping the day would become a regular event for the club in an effort to raise the profile of Australian rules in a rugby league-dominated area.

"The new guernsey came about from the committee wanting to expand our profile in the community," he said.

"It's hard to believe but many Ipswich residents don't know there is a senior Aussie rules team on their doorstep due to the massive profile rugby league has in the community.

"In order to raise the community's awareness of AFL in Ipswich, the committee decided to hold an event which celebrates the multicultural nature of Aussie rules and showcase two senior matches coinciding with this day. …
